At Kynoch of Scotland, our story spans more than two centuries of Scottish weaving. Along the way, certain symbols have become part of that journey, offering insight into the spirit of the times and the resilience of our mill. One such symbol is the Scottie Dog—an emblem woven into our history, and one we have recently registered to preserve as part of our legacy.

The Birth of the Scottie Dog

The Scottie Dog first appeared in the 1930s, a period when Kynoch, like many Scottish textile companies, was adapting to a changing world. After the upheaval of the First World War and the economic difficulties that followed, the Scottie was introduced as a distinctive mark of identity—a characterful emblem that set Kynoch cloth apart and gave our fabrics an instantly recognisable face.

The choice of a Scottie was no accident. Sturdy, loyal, and unmistakably Scottish, the dog reflected values that aligned with our weaving: resilience, authenticity, and heritage. It served as both a marketing tool and a symbol of pride, linking our name with an image that resonated far beyond the mill gates.

Kynoch Suiting FabricMore Than a Logo

For several decades, the Scottie Dog was closely associated with Kynoch, appearing across branding and cloth promotions. Yet, it was more than just a logo—it carried with it a sense of reassurance. When customers saw the Scottie, they knew they were choosing a cloth woven with care and expertise in Scotland.

While times have moved on, our visual identity has evolved to reflect a modern representation of our Scottish roots. Today, the stag is the symbol of Kynoch—an emblem of strength, elegance, and continuity that carries our heritage forward. Yet the Scottie remains an important chapter in our story. By officially registering it, we are ensuring that this piece of history is acknowledged and safeguarded for the future.

Kynoch Of ScotlandA Nod to Our Legacy

The Scottie Dog will not return as our primary identity, but it remains a treasured emblem—one that may find its place in secondary roles, from special editions to commemorative cloths, always supporting our contemporary branding. From our beginnings in Keith in 1788, through the challenges and transformations of the 19th and 20th centuries, to the global reputation we enjoy today, the Scottie is a symbol of how heritage and innovation have always been interwoven in our fabrics.

Looking Back to Look Forward

At Kynoch of Scotland, we believe that heritage is not about standing still but about carrying the strength of the past into the future. Registering the Scottie Dog allows us to celebrate an enduring part of our history, even as the stag leads our identity today and we continue to weave cloths that speak to modern luxury, innovation, and global style.

The Scottie Dog may not stand at the forefront of our brand, but it remains a faithful companion in our story—one we are proud to acknowledge as part of our heritage.
