Kynoch Of Scotland Private WhiteKynoch of Scotland is proud to have woven the cloth for Private White V.C.’s Admiral’s Great Coat—a commanding piece of outerwear crafted from double-sided cloth in 90% extrafine wool and 10% cashmere, with a substantial 600gms weight. This exclusive collaboration unites our weaving expertise with British garment-making, creating a coat that blends heritage, innovation, and enduring style.

A Modern Classic with Historic Roots

The Admiral’s Great Coat is a contemporary interpretation of the naval greatcoats worn by senior officers throughout the 20th century. Designed with presence and authority, it is cut from a double-sided wool–cashmere woven in our own mill. This cloth is the foundation of the piece, providing both the strength and richness that allow the silhouette to strike its balance between tradition and modernity.

Details That Define the Coat

The design is full of thoughtful touches. The coat is unlined, bound in copper for a clean, architectural finish that keeps the focus on the fabric. A detachable shearling collar adds versatility, while also nodding to the luxury of fine materials and craftsmanship.

Crucially, the high-quality yarn with cashmere content gives the fabric a distinctive hand feel and refined finish—an essential detail that makes a marked difference compared to an all-wool version. It is this blend of structure and softness that allows the Admiral’s Great Coat to carry such presence while remaining a pleasure to wear.

For Kynoch, weaving the cloth for the Admiral’s Great Coat reflects the forward-looking philosophy that has defined our mill for more than two centuries. While our story began in 1788, our focus has always been on evolution—on ensuring our weaving remains relevant for generations to come. We pride ourselves on fabrics that bring together authenticity and innovation, qualities that this coat embodies perfectly.

Private White | Kynoch Of Scotland Admiral CoatA Shared Commitment to Craft

Private White V.C. is a brand that shares many of these values. Based in Manchester and producing every garment in their own factory, they stand as champions of British craftsmanship. Their history is rooted in the story of Private Jack White, awarded the Victoria Cross during the First World War, and their work today continues that spirit of excellence and purpose. By working with mills such as ours, they ensure each garment reflects the very best of British making from cloth to completion.

More Than a Coat

The Admiral’s Great Coat is more than the sum of its parts. It represents a collaboration between two makers committed to integrity, detail, and design. It is a garment that acknowledges history without being confined by it, one that looks forward while remaining grounded in the strength of its origins.
